Kunzite is a pink-to-violet gemstone variety of spodumene, known for its soft, romantic colours and strong pleochroism (displaying different colours from different angles). Discovered in 1902 in California and named after Tiffany & Co. gemmologist George F. Kunz, this “evening stone” is often found in pegmatites in Brazil, Afghanistan, and Madagascar.
Colour & Clarity: Colours range from pale pink to violet, caused by trace amounts of manganese, often appearing more intense in larger stones (10+ carats).
Hardness & Care: It has a hardness of 6.5 to 7.0 on the Mohs scale, but its perfect cleavage makes it prone to shattering, requiring careful handling.
Colour Fading: Kunzite can fade in direct, prolonged sunlight, leading it to be known as an “evening stone,” ideal for evening wear.
Each purchase comes elegantly presented in Gem Source packaging.
